Sharpe actor Sean Bean, the also stared as Boromir in Lord of the Rings has been announced as the lead role in the HBO planned series 'A Game of Thrones' which is based on George RR Martin popular 'Song of Fire and Ice' series of fantasy books'.
No date has been set for screening the pilot as yet, and there is no commitment from HBO to a full series either, but with a Serious cast list headed up by Sean Bean, this project has got to be taken seriously.
He has been cast in role of Eddard Stark a Lord who is pressure to act as advisor to the ruthless royal family. Other cast members confirmed for the Pilot include Kit Harrington, Jack Gleeson, Harry Lloyd, and Peter Dinklage

Not very long ago, hockey was right up there with NFL Football, NBA Basketball and Major League Baseball as one of the most popular sports in the US. The other three are still going strong, with the NFL still dominant in the American sports scene.

Of course, a more accurate description of the sports climate might show that NASCAR and MMA have joined the NFL, NBA and MLB in that top tier. How did this happen to the NHL? Was it the entire season that was lost to the lockout that did this? No, that wasn't the reason, that lost year to the lockout was actually a symptom of the problem itself. The lockout was held because salaries were getting out of control and many franchises, outside of the most popular ones such as the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings, simply could not afford to keep paying as much to their players as they were.
They weren't making enough revenue to pull it off. Revenue is brought in for sports teams through several areas, the most important of which are television rights and ticket sales. As the popularity of the sport waned, these sources of income did as well. Therefore the lockout was a result of the problem, not the cause of the problem.
The lockout however certainly didn't help the situation. When hockey returned the next season they made a deal with the network known as OLN - now Versus - to broadcast their weekly national games. However that cable station reaches only a small fraction of the homes that the major networks reach. This means that hockey simply isn't viewable by a great deal of the population, leaving it in a spot where it can hardly increase its popularity.
Adding to this problem is the fact that hockey isn't the most captivating sport to watch on television. It is a fantastic sport to take in live. This helps explain why the sport is so popular in major metropolitan areas where there is a hockey team. These fans get to go to the games and take in the rabid culture. You can hear the turns and stops of the skating, you can feel the jarring checks as players hit the ice and fall into the boards. The speed and precise nature of the game comes out in a way that it simply cannot on television. Those people who never see a game in person therefore, may not even know what they are missing out on by not being a hockey fan.
While it has slipped from the top four and there are some problems which need to be ironed out to truly convey all of the action and excitement of NHL hockey on TV, if the league can find a new broadcast carrier with a larger market share, it may still be able to return to its former status as one of the most important American sports. Before You Buy The Dimage Minolta ... Please Read This Review!
I have owned a Nikon Coolpix digicam for slightly over 2 1/2 years and in that period of time I have taken over 3k footage. As I looked for cameras with powerful zooms, there were 2 I liked the range of- both the Canon Pro1 and the Dimage Minolta. The Dimage Minolta 7X optical zoom provides me a great range between wide angle to telephoto. Due to this wide selection, it's feasible to make many alternative photographs with this great camera.
Another awesome feature that pulled me to the Dimage Minolta was the anti-shake feature. A camera with a wonderful zoom isn't helpful if you cannot hold it steady enough to get a crisp photo. Despite the length of the zoom, the Dimage Minolta camera is incredibly condense and easily fits into my fanny pack which is precisely what I wanted.
Another feature that I really like about the Dimage Minolta is the adjustable LCD monitor which is much sharper than the one on my Nikon. This allows you to shoot above your head or at a low angle and still see what you are shooting at. You can fold the LCD to where it's facing the camera body to protect it and also take photos by employing the EVF viewfinder. Which allows you use less battery power.
The Dimage Minolta LCD will also turn absolutely forward so you can do a self portrait by trying the radio control to trip the shutter. The remote can also be effective for long exposures on a tripod like dim lighting shots. For night shots, it has got noise cancellation to where it will take a second picture with the shutter closed to record any "hot spots" from the pixels and take away them from the final picture so it is sharper and does not have all those white dots on it. I did this and it took great night pics - in fact the Dimage Minolta took the best low light pictures I have gotten with any camera I have owned.
The time between shots it pretty quick. Faster than my Nikon actually. It has manual or auto focus I used manual with it at infinity for my night time shots since this like many auto focus cameras can have difficulty targeting in low light situations. The macro can be used at either the wide angle or telephoto ends of the zoom. I have not especially attempted that yet. Nor have I attempted the film format which is claimed to be glorious. There are two resolutions you can use for that.
I thought my tiny Nikon 4mp camera took nice footage, but the Dimage Minolta blows that away. It is simple enough for a beginner to use it on "Auto" but has enough features to delight most execs too. During the 'Rat Pack' era of the 50's and 60's it became along with the Cal-Neva Lodge in Lake Tahoe the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The 11th floor, window walled Sky Room Lounge hosted performances by a roster of entertainment legends including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Louis Prima, Keely Smith, Milton Berle and Mae West. Downtown Reno struggled during the 1960's and 70's but the Mapes continued to prosper. The hotel finally closed in 1982, due to financial problems experienced by the Mapes Family brought about by their other Northern Nevada casino holdings.
Reno never experienced the massive growth that occurred in Las Vegas and southern Nevada, and for that reason the destruction of the Mapes is more open to debate than the hotel demolitions to the south. Even the demolition of The Sands"perhaps the most historically significant casino in the state"is hard to argue against given the inability of such a small property to compete in the current Las Vegas marketplace and in light of the value of the mid-strip real estate. The old properties may have historic value to pop culture historians, but their survival doesn't make economic sense. They're simply 'analog players in a digital world'.
That's not the case in Reno, where vacant land and/or buildings ripe for redevelopment are abundant downtown and in the other casino areas of the city. The official reason that the Mapes had to come down was that the city needed the land to expand its vision for downtown redevelopment. In fact, many of the proposals rejected by the city would have gone a long way to enhance the revitalization of downtown Reno and included artists lofts, office space and other mixed used properties. Bobby Hull"nicknamed The Golden Jet for his blond hair and his style of play"was the most feared goal scorer of the 60s and 70s and along with teammate Stan Mikita made the Chicago Blackhawks one of the NHLs true offensive juggernauts. He and Mikita were the first NHL players to use curved stick blades, which made his already wicked slapshot even more difficult to stop.
Hull was born and raised on a dairy farm near Belleville, Ontario. As a teenager it was obvious that he was on a fast track to NHL stardom, and he joined the Chicago Blackhawks not long after his 18th birthday. He would finish second in the leagues rookie of the year balloting in his first season and within a couple of years would become one of the NHLs marquee superstars. In 1961, he played an important role in the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup championship victory.
Hull made history in 1966 by becoming the first player to score more than 50 goals in a season. His 51st goal surpassed Montreal Canadiens' legends Bernie Boom Boom Geoffrion and Maurice Rocket Richard and earned him a 7 minute standing ovation from the home crowd at Chicago Stadium.
Hulls tenure with the Chicago Blackhawks ended in 1972, when he jumped to the upstart World Hockey Association (WHA). Initially, Hulls response that he would jump ship for a million bucks was an offhanded joke but when the WHA ownership agreed to contribute to that sum thinking that it would provide instant credibility for the league it became a reality.
Hull would quickly resume his offensive onslaught in the upstart league for his new team, the Winnipeg Jets. He would lead the Jets to two league championship AVCO Cup victories and in 1977 set a new professional hockey record with 77 goals in a season.
Injuries and chronic knee trouble would finally spell the end to Hull's career in the WHA's final season of 1979-80. He would briefly attempt a comeback with the New York Rangers in 1981, but when he proved ineffective in preseason eventually retired for good.
Modern fans may be more familiar with Hulls third son, Brett Hull, who earned NHL superstar status in his own right. Like his dad, Hull was a prolific goal scorer with a scary slapshot and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.
Hull is now 70 years old and splits his time between the Toronto area and Chicago where he serves as a PR ambassador for the Blackhawks organization. He is expected to formally induct his son into the Hall of Fame at the ceremonies later this summer.
