Guide to Pitching a 4 Man Tent

By Jeremy Thomas

Some campers have no experience pitching a 4 man tent. When you are winding down for the night, out on your camping trip, don't choose this time to learn. If you are overwhelmed, it can be a frustrating situation, leading to impatience. Prior to going camping, take time to set up the tent at your house. Prove to yourself that you can pitch it alone.

We have listened to this all before. Find the right spot. It is a very important task. Get a location that is high and dry. Try to find the most leveled part of the planet. If it starts raining or you get heavy winds, your 4 man dome tent should hold up. To avoid damaging your ground mat, remove all rocks and trash from the area you will be pitching the tent.

Since you have located a good spot, start putting the tent floor together. Ideally, you want to put the tarp down, to protect you from the naked ground. Remove any sharp debris that could rip the floor of the tent, and smooth the wrinkles out of the ground cloth. Put a temporary tape patch over any holes that were punctured in the flooring, to keep bugs from entering the 3 4 man tent.

Begin putting the poles and frame together. If you have never assembled this brand of 4 man camping tent before, you might want to go online and search for videos that show you how to do it. Take your time building the frame. You do not want to bend the aluminum poles, which is easy to do if you are angry and frustrated. Once you bend a pole, your tent will not assemble properly, and this could create a serious problem if you do not have a backup plan. Do not rush this part of the set up.

Assemble the frame, and attach the cover of the tent. Right now, manufacturers have designed a 4 man pop up tent, that will automatically unfold itself, and set up. Because the fabric is attached to the poles already, set up is a breeze. When setting up a regular tent, make sure you don't rip the cloth when it is time to attach the frame.

Find the corresponding spots and holes on the tent, and make sure the guy rope is attached to them. Yank on the rope until it is tight, and then hammer in stakes at 45 degree angles, the opposite direction of the tent. Anchoring the stakes straight up and down will not secure the tent as well, as if you would have secured them at an angle. The 4 man tent review had complaints about this issue.

Practice setting up your tent, so you can breeze through it when you get to the campsite. It will save time.
